Product Page Widget and Catalog Ranking API for Online Stores

A shopper on a product page wants to know one thing: will this suit me? ForMe asks them and answers, and the API ranks a whole category the same way.

TasteRay gives online stores two tools. ForMe is a widget added with one script tag and a button: it asks a shopper about five questions, then says whether this product suits them. The recommendation API ranks your own catalog against what a shopper says, with a written reason for each result.

Star ratings average strangers, and "people also bought" reports what other people did. Neither answers a person who has found the product and cannot decide. ForMe works at that moment, and the API works earlier, on the category page.

Install ForMe

Add the script once, then a button on anything you sell. data-tasteray-medium is required in practice, whatever else you read: leave it out and the chat returns an error. Use product for physical goods. It takes any non-empty string, and board-game worked in our test.

Give it a real description of 100 characters or more. We tested famous products, where the model also draws on what it knows; for an obscure item the description is most of what it has.

What we saw on physical products

On 5 November 2026 we ran two conversations through the ForMe chat endpoint, using the payload the widget sends. We did not go through the browser modal for these two, so the screens themselves were not part of this test.

Sony WH-1000XM5
With medium product, the questions covered noise isolation, the commute, focus, comfort against sound, and tolerance for a companion app. The verdict after the fifth answer scored 90.
Wingspan
With medium board-game, the questions covered competition, group size and length, rules weight, theme and luck. A first verdict of 88 moved to 94, then fell to 68 with an alternative after the shopper said they dislike luck-heavy games.

Rank a category with the API

We sent ten audio products to vertical: "headphones", including a studio microphone and a Bluetooth speaker, with one sentence from a frequent flyer. Prices in the reason come from the list we sent, which is why you should send them from your own database and show your own price on the card.

Below is the top result of the three returned. Check availability against your own stock before you show it: the API documents its availability fields as the model's own claim, so treat them as a hint.

Request body

  "vertical": "headphones",
  "context": {
    "profile": "Frequent flyer, long-haul flights, wants to sleep through engine noise, budget up to 450 USD.",

  },
  "items": [

Real capture, , from the keyless demo in fast mode, which returns at most three results. The first of three results, with one of the four key_factors. Round trip 3.0 s, meta.processing_time_ms 2,464. The model's sentences are verbatim.
  1. Sony WH-1000XM5

    98 out of 100, taste_match_score

    As a frequent flyer, you know that the true cost of a long-haul flight is the constant, intrusive hum of the engine. You aren't just buying noise cancellation; you are buying the ability to disappear, to reclaim your mental space, and to actually sleep. The XM5 is the industry benchmark for turning a roaring cabin into a sanctuary of silence, allowing you to arrive rested and not exhausted.

    • You are a smart traveler with a $450 budget. At $399, you get the top-tier industry standard, leaving you $51 under your limit for flight accessories or duty-free essentials. You aren't overpaying for gimmicks; you are investing in the best known solution for your specific problem.

Fields shown: item.name, metadata.taste_match_score, explanation.why_match, explanation.key_factors.

For a larger retailer

If you want your own content in the engine, your brand on the surface and limits set to your traffic, see Enterprise. It can start with a pilot on one category. Security covers what happens to request data, and ForMe's browser storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ForMe work on physical products or only on media?

ForMe works on physical products. In a test on 5 November 2026 it held sensible conversations about Sony headphones and the Wingspan board game, and its verdict changed with stated preferences. Set the medium attribute to product and write a description of 100 characters or more, since an obscure item depends on it.

How do I add ForMe to a store?

Add the ForMe script to the page once, then place a button with the for-me feature attribute, the product title, the medium and a description. There is no build step, signup or API key. The medium attribute is required in practice, because the chat returns an error when it is missing.

When should a store use the API instead of ForMe?

Use the API when the shopper has not chosen a product yet, such as on a category page or in a gift finder. It ranks up to ten of your products per request against what they said. ForMe suits a shopper already on one product who cannot decide whether to buy.
