Is Twin Peaks worth watching?

Yes, with the caveat that it is four distinct things and only three of them are good. The first season and the opening stretch of season two are extraordinary television. The middle of season two, made while Lynch was largely absent, collapses badly. Then it recovers for the final episodes, and The Return in 2017 is one of the strangest things ever broadcast.

The practical answer on order: season one, season two, then Fire Walk With Me, then The Return. The prequel film is widely disliked on first viewing and re-evaluated later, and it directly sets up material in The Return, so skipping it costs you. If the middle of season two defeats you, a widely circulated episode skip list exists and does no real harm.

FAQs about Where to Watch Twin Peaks

What order should I watch everything in?

Season one, season two, Fire Walk With Me, then The Return. That is release order with one exception: the film is a prequel but plays far better after the series, because it assumes you know these people and it directly sets up threads The Return picks up twenty-five years later.

Can I skip the bad part of season two?

Roughly episodes nine through sixteen are the weak stretch, made while Lynch had stepped away, and a widely circulated skip list exists. Doing so costs you little plot and some texture. Purists object; most first-time viewers who skip it finish the series, and most who do not, stop.

Is The Return a continuation or something else?

Something else. Lynch and Frost use the eighteen-episode run to interrogate the idea of returning at all, and several episodes barely feature the town. It is the most formally radical thing either has made and requires the earlier material to land, so save it for last.
