Is Andor worth watching?

Yes, and it is the one Star Wars production worth recommending to people who do not care about Star Wars. Gilroy wrote it as a series about how an insurgency is actually assembled: safe houses, forged documents, informants, and the enormous administrative apparatus on the other side. There are almost no lightsabers and no legacy cameos to speak of.

Two things to know. It is genuinely slow to start, spending its first three episodes on a small heist that only pays off later, and the prison arc in the back half of season one is the sequence people mean when they call it the best television of its year. Knowledge of Rogue One helps at the very end and is not needed before that.

FAQs about Where to Watch Andor

Do I need to know Star Wars to follow it?

Barely. Andor assumes only that an authoritarian Empire exists and that some people oppose it, and it explains its own politics from scratch. Rogue One adds weight to the final stretch, so the ideal order is Andor first and Rogue One immediately after, treating that film as the finale.

Where does Rogue One fit?

Directly after the series. Andor ends where Rogue One begins, and Gilroy wrote both, so the film functions as a two-hour conclusion rather than as a prerequisite. Watching Rogue One first is not harmful, but it removes the recognition the series has spent twenty-four episodes earning.

Is the slow start worth pushing through?

Yes, and the usual advice is to reach episode four. The first three were written as a single feature-length opening and were split late, which is why they feel unresolved individually. From episode four the show finds its rhythm, and the prison arc in episodes eight to ten is its peak.
